Biopraedium, the company and the project

Biopraedium is an innovative company in the agri-food sector that has developed an autonomous container for agricultural production (in this case, hydroponic green fodder).

The productive model they stand by revolves around two axes:

Objectives of the 3D visualization

Communicating an innovative product like BioPraedium's self-contained farm can be challenging, as its design is based on a shipping container that doesn't reveal much from the outside. In addition, his proposal is linked to the environment and weather conditions, which are a bit complicated to represent in a conventional video. 3D visualization through realistic rendering and product video was an ideal solution for this project. BioPraedium had clear that the objectives when creating the 3D visualization of its product were to effectively convey the two axes on which its production model is based: vertical agriculture and indoor farming.

How have we created it?

Having a clear and specific goal for 3D content is critical to the creation process, as it allows us to focus on the elements that are most relevant to the story we are telling.

It is preferable to transmit few things but in a direct and effective way. Biopraedium wanted to convey two key concepts (vertical farming and indoor farming), and in this case we recommended that it would be much more effective to communicate each concept separately. This allows the message to be clear and easy to understand, ensuring that 3D content is impactful and memorable.

Animation concept: simple but effective

On one hand, for the animation, the focus was on showing in a visual and simplified way how fodder is grown inside the container using vertically stacked trays to achieve a high growing density. To emphasize the essence of the message, we did not include technical elements such as sprinklers, lighting… we even removed the shelves!

If the communication objective for the animation had been, for example, to show the operation of the farm-container, then it would have made sense to represent those key technical elements for the operation of the container.

Concept of the rendering: the contrast with the weather

On the other hand, we opted to create a more emotional image to convey the idea of indoor agriculture.

We thought about climate control, about the contrast between the indoor and outdoor climate, and that led us to the idea of generating a nice and warm climate inside the container while a cold storm is raging outside.

Modeling and animation in Blender

Having set the basis for the design we got down to work.

The starting point was the measurements that Biopraedium provided us and we created a very simplified model of the container.

For the storm and rain images we played with different effects in the Gimp software.

The purpose behind the 3D visualization

We met Biopraedium at a fair, its fodder container caught the eye of many visitors.

Yet, once we started talking to them, the issue of how expensive and complicated it was to bring such a large product to a fair as an exhibitor immediately showed up. The 3D visualizations we've produced for them will be further support in the communication of their solution when their farm-container is present. But, undoubtedly, it will be even more useful during sales processes and at other fairs and events where they do not have space or cannot transport their container.

In short, 3D visualization was a key tool for BioPraedium to effectively communicate its innovative product, overcoming the difficulty of displaying a shipping container that doesn't reveal much from the outside. It allowed them to clearly transmit the two key points on which their production model is based, highlighting vertical agriculture and indoor agriculture as key values of their product.
