3D exploded view of an industrial wheel

In this article, we will show you how we created this 3D visualization of an exploded industrial wheel. We will go through the key steps of our process and discover how this type of content can benefit industrial companies in product sales and communication.

The process of 3D modeling and animation

Our process for creating this animation was as follows:

  1. Conceptualization: The starting point of any 3D modeling and animation project. We defined the main idea and what we wanted to achieve with the industrial visualization. In the case of our industrial wheel, the objective is to communicate its parts and how they are assembled. To accomplish this, an exploded view is a good option.
  2. 3D modeling: Once we have a clear idea, it's time to shape the industrial wheel in the digital world. In the case of exploded views, we need to model many more internal details because they will be shown during the animation. Using the free software Blender, we created each of the pieces.
  3. Texturing and materials: To achieve a convincing visual appearance, textures and materials are applied to the modeled pieces. The goal is not so much realism but rather to ensure that each piece is understood and differentiated.
  4. Animation: Animation is the soul of the project. The most important challenge in this exploded view was to design it in a way that the pieces were well coordinated with each other.

Once completed, we have a 3D visualization of our exploded industrial wheel where the third dimension facilitates the understanding of the product's components and their interaction. It's an impactful and captivating content that can be used in various ways by industrial companies.

Utility in the industrial world

3D content has become a fundamental tool for industrial companies. From creating interactive product catalogs to virtual training, its utility extends to multiple aspects of the industrial world:

Interactive product catalogs: Let customers explore your products in 3D

Imagine having a product catalog that goes beyond simple static images or 2D drawings with dimensions. With 3D content, companies can create more realistic and interactive catalogs that allow customers to explore products from every angle, switch between different variants, and see how the pieces are disassembled and reassembled. This immersive experience helps customers better understand the features and functionalities of the products, providing them with a clearer and more realistic view before making a purchase.

Virtual assembly manuals: Guiding workers step by step

In industrial environments, proper product assembly is essential. Traditional manuals can be confusing and difficult to follow. This is where 3D content makes a difference. By creating virtual assembly manuals, companies can guide workers step by step through interactive animations that clearly and accurately show each movement and connection. This simplifies the assembly process, reduces errors, and increases production efficiency.

Effective training and education: Learning visually and practically

Training and education are critical aspects in the industrial field. 3D content provides a highly valuable tool for visually and practically teaching employees. By creating interactive 3D simulations, companies can provide workers with an immersive learning experience where they can virtually manipulate products, understand their operation, and practice procedures without any risk. This accelerates the training process, improves information retention, and increases performance efficiency.
